Forfeiture / Seizure of Property
In Mississippi, "criminal forfeiture" often occurs in drug cases. It is not unusual for police to use forfeiture laws as leverage over criminal defendants. As an example, you are stopped on the interstate and your vehicle is searched. The police find a large sum of money. You are arrested and your vehicle and your money are taken by the police. You may be told that you will get off easier or even totally if you give up your money and your vehicle.
