Misdemeanor Charges
Misdemeanors are relatively minor offenses which are usually tried initially in Municipal, Justice, or County Court. Although a person cannot be sent to prison upon conviction of a misdemeanor, there is a possibility that a sentence of not more than one year and a fine may be imposed. Some of the more common misdemeanors are simple assault, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, gambling, prostitution and some kinds of shoplifting.
